Africa Day at RNIB College Loughborough

On Friday 16 May students and staff held an African Extravaganza. The College was packed with current and prospective students, their families and friends. The day was a showcase of this term's thematic topic, Africa. Throughout the term students had looked at the culture, music, dress and environment in order to fully understand rich African heritage and bring the theme to life.

The event started with an opportunity to visit a number of different stalls including jewellery made by mothers raising funds to support an African orphanage. The glorious weather meant that we were also able to offer a dance workshop to guests in our courtyard.

Then for the main event we held our Journey through Africa with tribal dancing and drumming and traditional African song. There was a spectacular parade including gazelle, wildebeest, lions, zebra, birds, a giraffe and a rhino. The experience concluded with a Jambo Bwana flash mob with all the audience participating in a traditional African dance and song.

Funds raised from the day went to the Amani Baby Cottage in Uganda and shortly after hearing the news of our fundraising efforts we received a lovely photo thank you showing their appreciation.
