Kate Green MP Shadow Minister for Disabled People visits RNIB College Loughborough

Kate Green MP Shadow Minister for Disabled People, along with Matthew O'Callaghan visited RNIB College Loughborough on Thursday 9 October. They had a tour of the College enterprises, the on-site businesses run by students.

Kate and Matthew spoke to students in the College Office and eBay business, as well as seeing how the enterprises are used to develop literacy, numeracy, communication and independence skills. Students presented Kate with a brooch in the Craft Studio and a Helping Hands bag in The Art's Centre. They had the opportunity to hear from students on the College's DWP employment programme for disabled adults. Kate then addressed staff and students on Labour's proposals to help disabled people back to work, including the introduction of a new specialist Work Support programme.

Kate and Matthew then had lunch in the Bell Bar, the student run catering business.

Kate Green MP said "The services provided by RNIB College Loughborough and other specialist colleges are vital in supporting disabled people into work; it has been really good to have an opportunity to see students learning the skills they need to gain employment. Insecure funding makes it hard for establishments like RNIB College Loughborough to plan ahead."
