Finnish Teacher chooses RNIB College Loughborough for educational visit

At the beginning of November we welcomed Finnish visitor, Maria Rutenberg for a two week fact finding educational visit. Maria works at Keskuspuisto Vocational College, a vocational special needs college in Finland. Maria applied and was successful in obtaining a learning scholarship earlier in the year. Maria identified RNIB College Loughborough as an ideal place to see how we support students with sight loss and other disabilities in the UK. Di Beresford, Programme Leader at the College put together an exciting two week plan for Maria in order to experience our enterprise learning environments and the activities the students get up to during their College week. Maria felt there were many similarities between the two colleges and we hope to collaborate further in the future.

June Murray, Acting Principal said 'It was a pleasure to host Maria's visit and to share experiences of working with our students. She had a great couple of weeks with us, and colleagues thoroughly enjoyed speaking about the work that we do, as well as hearing about the Finnish specialist education sector.'
