College Bridge programme enables students to move into their own home

Two students from RNIB College Loughborough have successfully moved into supported living, after completing a placement on the College's Bridge programme.

The Bridge programme is a residential, independence programme lasting up to one year. It provides young adults with the skills, experience and confidence to move into their own home. During the year students are encouraged and supported to carry out tasks, which typically may have been done for them. They learn how to do their shopping and manage a budget, along with cooking, cleaning and undertaking activities in the local community. Finally the College works with the student, their family, and the Local Authority and Care Provider to plan a smooth transition into their new life.
