Bridge student successes all round

The Bridge programme is a residential, independence programme at RNIB College Loughborough, providing young adults with the skills, experience and confidence to move into their own home. This year all six Bridge leavers will be moving into supported living. One of the students has started to work and we hope this will turn into paid employment later in the year. We've also seen student's confidence grow so that they can travel independently; with one student now traveling to London and back and booking his own support and tickets. One student has gone from being very reluctant to cook, to now cooking confidently and preparing food with minimal support. The programme also has a substantial impact on the softer skills in life helping develop student's social interaction skills necessarily for building lifelong relationships in adult life.

Tina, RNIB College's Bridge Programme Coordinator said "It has been great to see our Bridge students develop over the year. The skills, attitudes, and behaviors gained will give them a really good start in their new homes. Each student has really pushed themselves, enabling them to increase their independence and experiences."
