The College Chair and Vice Chair of Governors retire

Last week we held a surprise party for John Kershaw, Chair of Governors and Geoff Jackman, Vice Chair of Governors, to mark their retirement. Long standing friends of the College and former colleagues were amongst those invited to attend the afternoon tea celebration. The Hospitality students and staff did a wonderful job and the room was decorated with fresh flowers and handmade bunting. John and Geoff have been part of the Governing body for a total of 26 years. Geoff joined in 2004 after retiring from his post as Vice Principal and John 2 years later. A special tribute was paid to Geoff, who has given over 50 remarkable years of unbroken service to education in the RNIB. June Murray, College Principal said, 'this is a remarkable achievement in itself; but even more remarkable is the way Geoff has maintained his passion for the cause. He is a most modest man, never self–serving and he always puts the students first'.

We were thrilled that Ellie Southwood, Chair of the RNIB Board of Trustees, was able to join us for the day. Ellie toured the College in the morning, meeting students and staff and then joined the College Governing board for lunch and their termly meeting. She kindly added a few words about John and Geoff's achievements and their contribution to supporting people with sight loss.
