College offer Sight Loss Training Day

RNIB College is offering a Sight Loss Training Day to DEAs, Pathways to Work providers, Connexions Advisors, Social Services, Parent Partnerships and other professionals working with people with a sight loss. The training day will take place on Wednesday 22 September 2010, 10.00am-2.45pm and is FREE of charge with only 30 places available.
The day includes:
- Welcome and Introduction to Sight Loss
- Workshops

- Questions and Answers
The workshops will comprise:
- Understanding sight loss: experience first hand different eye conditions using simulator spectacles, try to read books, find your way around and use tactile diagrams.
- Technology: find out about assistive technology for people with no sight or low vision including: speech and magnification technology for use with IT, non-sighted working methods and braille technology.
- Independent living skills: discover how people with sight loss learn daily living skills such as washing, ironing, shopping and cooking from our specialist tutors. Also see how an every-day kitchen has been adapted to make it more accessible.
- Work and employment skills for people with disabilities: learn about work and employment related issues for people with disabilities including practical tips for making job searching accessible.
- Living with sight loss: people with sight loss tell their stories and experiences and are there to answer your questions, including what you can do to make a difference.
