RNIB College Loughborough was host to photographers and film crews today as staff and learners welcomed Chris Holmes, Director of Paralympic Integration for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

He arrived at the College to meet current learners and to present the 'Get Set' initiative plaque. This is the official London 2012 education programme initiative, which encourages schools and colleges to demonstrate a commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic values of respect, friendship, equality, inspiration and determination. RNIB College Loughborough is one of a select few colleges in the area to receive an award.

Before the presentation began Chris was able to meet future Paralympic hopefuls including Patrick Cox who aims to compete in table tennis and Natasha Floyd, a learner who recently won the National Boccia Championships. Natasha took the opportunity to talk about Boccia and her hopes that the sport can one day reach a professional level and be included in the paralympic games.

After the plaque was presented to the College Principal, Tony Warren learners clapped and cheered and Chris then took the opportunity to talk about his life and professional career. He explained that despite suddenly losing his sight at the age of 14 he continued to seek his passion to represent his country in sport. Chris went on to become one of Britain's most successful Paralympians winning a total of nine gold, five silver and one bronze medal at four Paralympic Games. The speech was inspirational and also highlighted the privilege of being able to host the games in London, an event that is likely to happen only once in a life time.
