Original Artwork Brightens up The Bell Bar

Learners have been running the College canteen, known as the Bell bar, since last September and it is now used as a full time teaching environment as well as a central meeting place for staff and learners alike. It was therefore decided that it needed brightening up and a local artist was chosen to produce five pieces of original artwork to hang on the walls.

In order to produce the artwork the learners were photographed carrying out daily tasks such as serving drinks and meeting customers. These were then taken away and adapted. After some digital enhancement the pictures came back with a fun and quirky style. Some show learners juggling with kitchen utensils while others use colour to highlight and contrast against the black and white images. A running theme throughout each piece is the red hats worn by learners as part of their uniform, which also matches perfectly with the interior of the room.

The artwork shows many learners with different disabilities, which demonstrates that the College is a place for everyone to come together, make friends and learn new skills.

The canvases have now been hung around the Bell Bar for all to enjoy.
