Celebrating Dignity Action Day

Learners and staff at RNIB College Loughborough have been celebrating Dignity Action Day to mark their registration with the Dignity and Care Network. This action day took place on Friday 1 February and provides an annual opportunity for those working in care, and members of the public to promote the need to uphold people's rights to dignity and provide a truly memorable day for people who use care services.

With the help of the College's Dignity Champion, the learners created a 'Dignity Tree' in their Art Club sessions. On Friday morning learners and staff discussed what dignity meant to them and wrote their thoughts on a colourful leaf. These leaves were then collected together and placed up on the tree within the Stan Bell Centre to complete the Dignity Tree.

The tree is now a prominent feature within the entrance of the Stan Bell Centre and will ensure that the importance of dignity continues to be promoted throughout the College on a daily basis.

Aarti Popat, Assistant Manager and Dignity Champion said, "High quality care begins with empowering the learners by helping them to understand what dignity means to them and to provide a channel for them to discuss subjects related to it. The Dignity Tree helps them to do this".
