RNIB College Loughborough was delighted to welcome Esther McVey, Minister for Disabled People, to the College on Thursday 21 February. Joined by Nicky Morgan MP, they enjoyed a tour of the College's Adult Training provision which supports adults with a disability to return to work. The tour included a meeting with staff and the chance to talk to some of the college's employer contacts, who are vital in providing trainees with work experience and other valuable opportunities including mock interviews and site visits.

The Minister was especially interested to meet current trainees and took the time to watch a demonstration of access technology software, JAWS; a text to speech output used by blind and partially sighted people to access a computer. Afterwards, they spent time talking to current trainees about their past experiences and learned how the college was helping them to improve their employment skills.

The visitors stayed at the college for around 4 hours and ended with a meeting that included the Principals from all 9 other residential training colleges.

Toney Warren, College Principal said, "It was great to introduce the Minister to our disabled trainees getting ready for work and the employer and community partners that help make that possible."
