We’re looking for Travel Support Volunteers in Loughborough

Blind and partially sighted people have told us that travelling around can, at best, be daunting and, at worst, be impossible for them. Many are left isolated with no means of going to the shops, visiting friends and accessing local amenities. For the majority of blind and partially people, gaining the confidence to travel on their own would be the first step to independence.

To help blind and partially sighted people gain this confidence, we are piloting an exciting new travel project in Loughborough. We are looking for people to pilot a Travel Support Volunteer role in which you can give a blind or partially sighted person the confidence to start travelling by themselves.

We're looking for people who could help with:

  • accompanying someone on a chosen journey
  • helping them to familiarise themselves with new routes
  • helping them to research which travel providers are out there
  • helping them to check out timetables and/or book tickets online.

If you think you would enjoy this role or you want to find out more please contact us on 01733 3750 450 or email volunteering@rnib.org.uk

Full training is provided; volunteers will travel within the Loughborough area. This role requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check.

Our vision is of a world in which blind and partially sighted people enjoy the same rights, freedom, responsibilities and quality of life as people who are fully sighted.
