Family open day

RNIB College Loughborough opened its doors on Saturday 5 October for the annual Family Open Day, giving current and prospective families the opportunity to experience what we have to offer our students. There were over 90 attendees joining us for the day.

Activities involved t-shirt painting, demonstrations of access technology used by students, and the opportunity to learn how to use the Perkins machine and a Braille Note. Visitors were also able to meet with our Governors and have guided tours around the College enterprises. The afternoon was started with a lively music workshop, where families were joined by Tony Warren, College Principal and MP Nicky Morgan demonstrating their musical talent. We opened up our residential accommodation, The Stan Bell Centre, where visitors had the opportunity to meet staff, tour the venue and enjoy nibbles freshly made by students. The Stan Bell Centre accommodates students studying at RNIB College Loughborough but also offers the Bridge programme, our package to move young adults closer to independence and a respite service. Also in the afternoon talks were given about our approach to transition planning, along with information on our packages to move young people closer to independence.

We hope that everyone that attended had a fun and informative day. If you were unable to attend but are interested in one of our programmes please contact 01509 631220 to arrange a visit.
