RNIB College Loughborough starts Student Council

RNIB College Loughborough recently ran its Student Governor elections, giving students the opportunity to be voted by their peers to represent them. Thirteen students put themselves up for election. The College decided that with such a high level of interest and support, they wanted to build upon this and have now created a Student Council. Through the Council students will have the opportunity to help improve the College experience for their fellow students, staff and visitors. This will be done through helping design surveys, participation in focus groups, and attending and giving a student perspective on College working groups. The two elected Student Governors will also provide feedback to the Governors and College Management Team.

June Murray, Acting Principal said 'We always value the contribution the students make to the College and the Student Council will add a further dimension to this.'

The Student Council meetings will be held every other month. Student Council representatives will also attend the Equality and Diversity group, Health and Safety group, and Sustainability group meetings. The two elected Student Governors will also have a standing agenda slot at the Governors meetings, allowing them to feedback back first hand to the College Governing Board.
